DARK ROOM SCREEN TECH:
$17 - $20/hr plus full benefits, paid time off, and a 4-day work week* (not 4 - 10s)
CommonWealth Press is a Pittsburgh-based Union screen printing shop. We are looking for a DARK ROOM SCREEN TECH to join our team. This person’s main goal is to prepare quality screens for producution level screenprinting.
coating, drying, exposing, and knowing what screens work for what art is a skill you’d need to have and understand.
The ideal candidate UNDERSTANDS screen printing. They have worked in a shop and know how art works on screen. what colors go with what mesh counts, and just get the general overview of screen printing.
We need someone with print shop experience. They must have an understanding of ink, process, screens, quality, artwork reproduction, simulated process, and know screens … if you know screens, you know what it means. (sorry i just wanted that to rhyme).
Responsibilities:
Coat screens, expose screens, washout screens, know screens, speak the secret language of screens.
Reclaim screens when needed, learn or at least try to understand our automatic screen reclaiming unit.
Requirements:
Proven experience in the screen printing industry
Excellent communication skills

CommonWealth Press is a Pittsburgh based union screen printing, design, and retail space dedicated to offering quality screen printing solutions for businesses, bands, artists, and our own retail line. We print garments, vinyl, stickers, fine art posters, and offer design and print solutions to customers that range from individual independent artists up to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Our shop was founded in a south side basement and has grown on word of mouth to our very own warehouse (on Warrington, right by the liberty tunnel) employing a small and hard-working team.
CommonWealth Press is a recognized AFL/CIO TRADE UNION SCREEN PRINTING SHOP - PGH TYPO #7. We are an employee-executed, owner-initiated union shop with 100% participation. If hired you will be required to join the union.

*we work a 4-day work week, which envisions employees receiving 100% pay for 80% of hours worked while hitting 100% of productivity targets. You will be working 32 hours a week, with 40 hours paid based on efficiency goals.

CommonWealth Press is an family/artist-owned, Pittsburgh proud, union screenprinting shop. We started in a south side basement and have grown to our own 22K sq ft warehouse. We are located at 415 w Warrington Ave and print Tshirts, stickers, posters, etc for local bands, businesses, unions, and anybody who appreciates quality printing from decent humans. We are the only union screenprinting shop in and around and anywhere near Pittsburgh.
We have had brick-and-mortar retail stores throughout the city selling our own line of Pittsburgh-centric designs.
